The Establishment of Land Information System for the
Purpose of Enhancing Municipal Planning and Supervision of the
Land and Environment in Hebron District
Land Research Center (LRC) and "Centro Internationale Crocevia -CIC" in cooperation with "Provincia di PISA" and "Centro per la Cooperazione E Gli Scambi Cuturali Nord-Sud" with the cofinancing of Italian Cooperation are implementing a project for Hebron Municipality - Palestine entitled:
" Istituzione di un Sistema Informativo Territoriale per il miglioramento dell' pianificazione e gestione del territorio e dell' ambiente nel distretto di HEBRON".
The project is aiming at establishing a planning unit to utilize the technical capabilities of the land information system in enhancing the urban, regional and environmental planning. It is the first to be utilized in the West Bank. The fruitful experience of Pisa Province in this field will be transferred to Hebron Municipality and other surrounding municipalities through the implementation of this project.
In the context of this project, six technicians from the Land research Center and Hebron Municipality attended a preparatory training course about Geographic Information System (GIS) for municipalities in Pisa - Italy during June and July, 2001.
The project is viable to be applied and extended to other municipalities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Project started in August, 2000.
