Mr. Azem Haj Mohammad, a head of Froush Beit Dajan village council to the LRC told as follows:

‘’ Pools that targeted were very important to provide irrigation water to vast areas, Israeli occupation targeting is a plan to destroy agricultural sector in whole area, prior that they demolition a water pool at the beginning of this year in Froush Beit Dajan, noted village rely on agriculture sector and considered a source to all the residents. The cost of purchasing water is extremely high, 4 shekels per cubic meter, so these pools are providing water to crops.’’

Over past years, the Israeli occupation has targeted several water pools in the area in conjunction with demolition several homes and agricultural structures on the pretext of building without a license.

The village suffers from lacking water sources due to the occupation, now there are 3 artesian wells in the village were work with 120 cubic / hour and now work 60 cubic/ hour and a very low amount, so what the residents got isn’t exceeded more than 1% of total water in the area.

There are 9 wells were built before the occupation. However, most of them are dried up due to the declining water table. Today three of them are operational while the remain pump saline water, meanwhile the water that take control by the occupation is from wells that exist in Al Hamra settlement is not used to serve settlers in the settlement which it’s populate no more than 20 families and transferring it according to irrigation network extend from Ghor Bessan to the south, this network is used to cover any water shortages in any settlement.

Targeting Agricultural Lands and Demolishing Water Wells…. A Grave Violation of the Palestinian Environment:

Israeli assaults on agricultural lands and Palestinian water rights constitute a blatant violation of the Palestinian environment, the targeting of wells, water tanks, and reservoirs by the occupation leads to increased drought and desertification of agricultural lands, ultimately resulting in their complete destruction. The occupation ‘s policy of preventing the construction of wells and systematically demolishing them is a deliberate strategy. They also pursue and pollute natural springs or seize control if them, such as Ein al- Sakut in the Jordan valley and Ein al Hilweh, among others.

According to field research team at LRC, during the war period from 7th October 2023 to 31tDecember 2024, the Israeli forces demolished 113 water wells, reservoirs, and artesian wells with a total capacity of 3,063 cubic meter. They also destroyed 9 water pipelines with a total length of 2525 meters. These wells had been irrigating 2,172 dunams of agricultural land, which have now been ruined due to the loss of their irrigation sources.

Furthermore, attacks by settlers on Palestinian water sources have intensified. According to LRC, settlers have destroyed, damaged, polluted or stolen: 18 water wells, 121 water tanks, 810 water tankers, 20 water pumps, 14water networks totaling 2,950 meters in length, and 7 natural springs.
